Mirror Size Guide

← Back to Inspiration

Choosing the right mirror size can completely change the feel of a room. A well-proportioned mirror enhances light, adds balance and helps a space feel more considered, while the wrong size can feel awkward or visually out of place.

Whether you are styling a mirror above a fireplace, placing one over a console table or choosing a full length design for a bedroom, proportion is key. This guide will help you choose a mirror size that feels right for your space.

Mirror Size Above a Console Table

A mirror above a console table should usually be around two thirds the width of the furniture beneath it. This helps the mirror feel visually connected to the piece below it while still leaving breathing room on either side.

  • 90cm console → mirror around 60cm wide
  • 120cm console → mirror around 80cm wide
  • 150cm console → mirror around 100cm wide

Mirror Size Above a Fireplace

A mirror above a fireplace often becomes the focal point of the room, so scale matters. A good rule is to choose a mirror that is between 60% and 80% of the mantel width.

Around 60–80% of the mantel width

This proportion usually creates a balanced focal point above the fireplace without the mirror feeling too narrow or oversized.

  • Small mantel (around 90cm) → mirror around 60–70cm wide
  • Standard mantel (around 120cm) → mirror around 80–100cm wide
  • Large mantel (150cm+) → mirror around 100–120cm wide
Full length mirror in bedroom

Choosing a Full Length Mirror

Full length mirrors are ideal for bedrooms, dressing areas and hallways. To comfortably reflect most of the body, a mirror should usually be at least 120–150cm tall.

Usually 120–150cm tall or more

Taller mirrors create a more generous reflection and can make bedrooms, dressing areas and hallways feel more spacious.

  • Compact full length mirror → around 120cm tall
  • Standard full length mirror → around 150cm tall
  • Statement full length mirror → 170cm or taller

The right mirror size should feel balanced within the room, complement the furniture around it and enhance the natural flow of the space. If in doubt, slightly larger often feels more considered than too small.
